PRESS RELEASE
The Demand for scrapping of various Mega Hydro electric Power Projects raised for a very Long time by the people of North Sikkim particularly from Dzongu through the Affected Citizens of Teesta, Sangha of Dzongu and the Concerned Lepchas of Sikkim and supported by various individuals and organizations has reached the Highest International forum the United Nations organization (UNO).
The issues raised in the memorandum submitted to the General Body of World Mountain Peoples Association by the representatives of the North East India were discussed, accepted and then passed as the motion by the General Body and then submitted to the UNESCO by the WMPA on the 4th of October 2010.
The meeting at the UNESCO, Paris was presided by Mr Thomas Schaaf, Secretary of Commission and present on the occasion were Mr S.Panikar the Indian Govt representative in the UNESCO, The Ambassador of Equador, Peru and Mr Jean Lassale the Chairman of WMPA read the Motions and submitted to the Secretary of commission. The North east was presented by Ms Mayfereen Ryntahaing, President Grassroots(Meghalaya) Mr. Anthony Debberma,Borok peoples Human Rights, (Tripura)and the undersigned.
